Ballater is an ideal base to tour the Highland Games held in and around Deeside.  Some are more famous than others, with the most famous of them all being the Braemar Highland Gathering.  The Braemar Gathering takes its fame from members of the British Royal Family often regularly making an appearance.  The above picture shows a tug of war at the 2007 Braemar Gathering, with the Royal Box in the background.

Ballater Square (above) is popular for piping and Scottish dancing displays even out of the Highland Games season.
